Comparison

Matrix

Pick a peer group. Comparison happens inside one, and this site cannot express a comparison across two.

That is a deliberate structural limit, not an omission. Scoring Odoo POS against Oracle Simphony head-to-head produces a number that means nothing, and a global adoption percentage silently penalises specialists — a taproom POS would be marked down for lacking drive-thru timers its buyers do not want. Each group publishes its inclusion criteria and the claims it is scored on; both are contestable.

Mainstream commercial restaurant POS

20 products · 278 claims · floor 178

Cloud or hybrid restaurant POS sold direct to independents and small multi-unit groups, with published self-serve pricing or a public online sign-up, and no minimum location count. Concept-agnostic rather than specialised to one service style.

Enterprise & chain restaurant POS

11 products · 314 claims · floor 212

Restaurant POS sold quote-only through a direct enterprise sales motion or a VAR/dealer channel, with a documented multi-property or corporate/franchisee hierarchy, and typically an on-premise or hybrid deployment option. Buyers are multi-unit operators, franchisors and large hospitality venues.

QSR & drive-thru

9 products · 296 claims · floor 3

Products whose primary marketed use case is quick-service throughput: drive-thru order capture and timing, self-service kiosks, or voice-AI order taking. Includes point solutions that are not full POS but compete for the QSR ordering workflow.

Pizza & delivery-led

7 products · 311 claims · floor 160

POS that markets pizza-specific capability (fractional/half-and-half topping placement, per-section pricing rules) or operator-run delivery capability (driver roster, dispatch board, route mapping) as a headline feature rather than an add-on.

Bar, brewery & taproom

4 products · 224 claims · floor 27

POS marketed primarily to bars, breweries, taprooms and beverage-led venues, typically featuring tab management, pre-authorised card tabs, pour/keg tracking or self-pour integration.

Mobile & food truck

3 products · 226 claims · floor 3

POS designed for a single mobile operator: runs on a phone or tablet with no fixed terminal requirement, tolerates intermittent connectivity, and is sold with no contract and no location minimum.

Open source & self-hostable

13 products · 278 claims · floor 47

Source code is publicly available under an OSI-approved licence and the product can be self-hosted without a commercial contract. Includes ERP modules that ship a restaurant or hospitality POS component.

Adjacent encroachers — ordering, middleware & back-office

24 products · 255 claims · floor 78

NOT point-of-sale systems. Products that integrate with or route around a POS — first-party ordering, delivery middleware, reservations, loyalty, labour, inventory and back-office platforms, and payment terminals sold without a POS. Tracked because they take capability territory from the POS, and compared only against each other.

Regional & international

8 products · 312 claims · floor 56

Restaurant POS whose primary market is outside the United States, evidenced by a non-US headquarters plus localisation the US vendors do not ship — local fiscal compliance, regional payment rails, or non-English product UI.
